History
The historic residence was once a small hamlet and dates back to the mid-17th century. Once a part of the vast properties held in the area by the Marchesi Ranieri di Sorbello family, this historic residence is now owned by the Salvetti family and has been carefully restored to its original splendour.
In 1933 the complex was listed as a historic building by the Italian Culture Ministry.
THE HISTORY OF LAKE TRASIMENO
Over two thousand years ago, in 217 BC, Lake Trasimeno and the surrounding countryside were the setting of one of the bloodiest battles in antiquity, the Battle of Lake Trasimene, during which the Carthaginian troops commanded by Hannibal defeated the Roman legions under the command of the consul Gaius Flaminius..

On the morning of June 24th 217 BC over 25,000 Roman troops were taken by surprise by the Carthaginians, who had managed to encircle them. Over 15,000 Roman soldiers were butchered and some 6,000 taken captive.
A number of archaeological sites related to the battle are still visible today and throughout June, July and August there are a number of historical re-enactments of the Battle of Lake Trasimeno, that bring back to life that terrible defeat.
