 HISTORY

Legends state that The Italian race is descended from Giano the God Bifronte and the Ninfa Camesena who would celebrate their weddings along the river Clitunno at Pissignano. This derives from the Latin " Piscina Janis Regis Italiæ", sacred place of the Gods.

Plinio the Giovane (62 D.C. to 114 A.D.) described the clarity and the abundance of the water on the Clitunno, and the beauty of the surrounding area, rich in poplar trees and other luxuriant varieties. Before him, also Virgilio in "Georgiche" celebrated the place poetically.

In the fourth century, on a pagan templ, the Templet was built, on the Clitunno bank, dedicated to The Saviour .
In the Middle ages the Comune of Spoleto built a mill for grain and oil near the Templet. It worked thanks to the force of the water from the Fonti of Clitunno. This can be see flowing, forcefully and clearly from the inside of the mill and in the garden of the Residence.  In the Millin Room one can see the still functioning devices and the antique stone from the fifteenth century. Over the centuries it became a place of refreshment for the numerous travellers along the Via Flaminia. It was called Osteria of Vene, finally becoming after restauration work a kind of Residence Vecchio Mulino.
This pleasant and refined Hotel came to life in this way. It is open for bed and breakfast and for banquets and conference.
