PERUGIA umbria -
Eurochocolate 2004
2004 will be an election year, and in many cities new mayors will be elected. In Perugia the first ChocoMayor, who will remain in office only for the duration of the event, will also be elected. So anyone in Italy with a sweet tooth may, starting in April, express his or her preference for a City of Chocolate Mayoral candidate, voting through the event’s official site (www.eurochocolate.com). Three lists are planned: the dark list, milk list, and gianduia list. Each of the lists is preparing its own electoral programme, which will soon be made known and promoted online. “A chocolate shop every 1,000 inhabitants”, “+ cocoa, – milk”, and “Chocolate for all” will be only some of the yummy electoral slogans that will be publicised with the aim of collecting votes. The election of the ChocoMayor is planned for Sunday, 17 October (the date of the customary appointment with the Chocolate Sculptures), but already from the first day, the opening day of the sweet festival, immediately after the closing of the chocopolling stations, the much-awaited results of the exit polls will be made known. Everyone who has voted via the Internet and who comes to Eurochocolate will be rewarded with scrumptious chocolate samples! Anticipations from Eurochocolate Perugia 2004 Eurochocolate Perugia 2004 will play host to numerous shows and didactic and cultural initiatives, aiming to promote the knowledge of chocolate which, in Italy also, has finally been freed of longstanding nutritional and dietary prejudices. Among the main events, worthy of note is “The Island of the Sweet-Toothed”, a true corner of paradise for chocolate lovers, who will be able to delight their palates with a thousand offerings. Also, on the scientific-cultural front, there will be an international seminar devoted to the study of the emotions connected with chocolate consumption, during which experts and scholars from various parts of the world will give their contribution. For this edition it is also expected that there will be a great participation of cocoa-producing countries, who will have the chance to make known their realities connected with the production of the “food of the gods”. Another novelty of Eurochocolate Perugia 2004 will be “Chocolate Living”: a very refined, elegant space devoted to the meticulous and relaxing tasting of chocolate, in which several important interior designers will be the protagonists. Obviously, there will be all the traditional didactic appointments (The Chocolate Master, Chocoschool, …) addressing the various consumer targets, as well as the Chocolate Show, the great open-air bazaar hosting over 130 brands of the national and international confectionery industry.
